- Fourier makes the GR-1 and GR-3 humanoid robots
Meta Platforms (META) has built a prototype humanoid robot with Chinese robotics startup Fourier and is working on a second version, The Information reported on October 31.
Reuters said it couldn't immediately verify the report. As of 1:30 p.m. ET on October 31, neither company had posted a statement about the report in its online newsroom.
Fourier makes humanoid robots and rehabilitation devices
Fourier was founded in 2015 and started its humanoid robot project in 2019, according to its company website. It calls its GR-1, launched in 2023, the first mass-produced humanoid robot in the industry, and it released its GR-3 series in 2025.
Fourier also sells rehabilitation robots and says it serves more than 2,000 institutions in more than 60 countries.
Meta has been building a robotics team since 2025
In February 2025, Meta formed a team in its Reality Labs hardware division to develop humanoid robots, GeekWire reported at the time, following a Bloomberg report. Former Cruise CEO Marc Whitten was hired to lead it. Meta wanted to sell robots that could do household chores, according to Bloomberg.
Meta is also testing robots inside its data centers. In August, Wired reported that Meta was testing robots that plug in cables and reset servers.
The report came the day after S&P Global Ratings turned its outlook on Meta negative, citing uncertainty over how long Meta's heavy capital spending will last. Meta shares closed at $614.99 on October 30.
