- What Apple's $299 HomeView does
- Why the EU won't get it
- Which new device gets Siri AI later
Apple (AAPL) introduced HomeView on Tuesday, a $299 smart home hub with a 7-inch screen built around Siri AI, the new version of its voice assistant. Apple marketing chief Greg Joswiak said the device is "powered by Apple Intelligence with Siri AI at its core."
Apple also announced a new Apple TV 4K, a HomePod mini 2, and a line of cameras, thermostats, and a door lock made with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric.
HomeView recognizes each user by face
HomeView comes as a countertop model with a speaker base or as a wall-mounted version, and both cost $299. The wall version needs a separate mount, starting at $59.95. It runs on Apple's A18 chip and recognizes up to six people by their faces, so each person can get to their own messages, calendar, and reminders. Pre-orders opened Tuesday, and the device ships November 13.
Users can control lights, thermostats, locks, and cameras by touch or by voice, and watch up to nine camera feeds at once, according to Apple.
HomeView won't be sold in the EU
"Apple HomeView is not available for sale in the European Union, as Siri AI is currently unavailable in iOS in the EU," Apple said. The company added that it's "working constructively with the EU in an attempt to find a path forward."
Pre-orders opened in the U.S., the UK, Canada, Australia, India, and New Zealand. Singapore follows on October 15.
HomePod mini 2 gets Siri AI in a later update
The $149 HomePod mini 2 ships October 30 in five colors, but Siri AI will reach it "via a future software update," Apple said.
The new Apple TV 4K costs $299 and ships November 13. It has far-field microphones, so users can talk to Siri without picking up the remote, and it can run surround sound through four HomePod speakers.
The Apple Home Collection devices from LG and Schneider range from $39.95 for a temperature sensor to $399.95 for an LG floodlight camera. They go on sale in December, with some arriving in early 2027.
Apple shares were up 1.3% at $345.42 as of 10:00 a.m. ET.
