  • What Meta has not said yet

Meta Platforms (META) is launching a business that sells its AI tools to companies, and has hired MongoDB (MDB) CEO CJ Desai to lead it. The new unit, Meta Enterprise Platform, will start by offering the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, and Muse Code to businesses and developers, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a statement on Monday.

Desai joins Meta as chief enterprise platform officer and will report directly to Zuckerberg. MongoDB said he stepped down as president and CEO effective immediately and named former CEO Dev Ittycheria interim CEO. As of 10 a.m. ET, MongoDB shares were down 21.1% at $323.88, and Meta shares were down 4% at $721.47.

What is Meta Enterprise Platform?

Zuckerberg called the unit "the next major pillar of our business." He said it will draw on Meta's models, agents, infrastructure, and years of working with businesses, strengths "that few other companies have."

Meta did not disclose pricing or say when the enterprise products will be available. Meta launched Muse, its personal AI agent, for consumers this month. Business Agent answers customer questions and helps merchants sell through WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. Meta made it available to every business in June and has reportedly agreed to buy Swedish startup Stilla to accelerate its development.

The launch comes as Meta spends heavily on AI. The company expects 2026 capital expenditures of $130 billion to $145 billion, including principal payments on finance leases, according to its second-quarter results.

Before MongoDB, Desai led product and engineering at Cloudflare and spent nearly eight years at ServiceNow, including as president and chief operating officer.

What happens at MongoDB?

Desai took over from Ittycheria in November 2025, so he ran MongoDB for less than a year. He told the company on September 24 that he intended to resign, and MongoDB said the decision was not due to any disagreement with the company, according to an SEC filing.

Ittycheria ran MongoDB from 2014 to 2025. Annual revenue grew from about $35 million to more than $2.3 billion over that stretch, the company said. The board has hired an executive search firm to find a permanent CEO.

"MongoDB's business is strong," Chairman Tom Killalea said in the company's announcement. MongoDB reaffirmed the third-quarter and fiscal 2027 guidance issued on September 1. The company is still hosting an investor day at Nasdaq MarketSite on Tuesday.
