Rep. Jared Moskowitz bought SpaceX on its first day of trading. The disclosure landed 44 days later, with the stock down 29%.

Rep. Jared Moskowitz bought SpaceX on its first day of trading. The disclosure landed 44 days later, with the stock down 29%.

Key points

  • Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) disclosed a purchase of SpaceX (SPCX) dated June 12, 2026, in the $1,001 to $15,000 range. June 12 was the stock's first day of trading.
  • SPCX closed at $160.95 that day. It closed at $113.50 on July 27, a decline of about 29 percent.
  • He signed the filing on July 26, 44 days after the trade and one day inside the 45-day STOCK Act deadline.
  • The same report covers seven other companies. S&P Global (SPGI), the only sale in the batch, has gained 11.2 percent since he sold it.
  • Three of the eight report earnings within days of the disclosure: S&P Global on July 28, then Microsoft and Meta after the close on July 29. SpaceX reports August 4.

I read our Congress stock tracker most mornings, and a row filed on July 26 was worth a second look. Jared Moskowitz, who represents Florida's 23rd district, had disclosed a batch of eight companies. Seven of them read like an ordinary brokerage statement holding Microsoft and Home Depot. The eighth was SpaceX, dated June 12, 2026. That's the day the stock started trading.

What the filing shows

His periodic transaction report, signed July 26, lists 16 transaction lines across four Morgan Stanley accounts. Collapse those by company and you get the eight names. Every line carries the same $1,001 to $15,000 bracket, which is as precise as the STOCK Act gets. Members report a range, and share counts and execution prices stay private.

The SpaceX line stands apart in two ways. It's dated June 12, five days before the rest of the filing's activity, and it sits by itself in its own account.

Our tracker collapses this filing into eight ticker badges, and that undercounts it. Six of these eight companies show up in more than one account on the same day, and Applied Materials and S&P Global each appear three times. Read as eight positions, the filing covers $8,008 to $120,000. Counted line by line, the range runs from $16,016 to $240,000.

SpaceX since June 12

SpaceX priced the largest IPO on record at $135 a share and opened at $150. It closed its first session at $160.95 and reached $211.39 by June 16 before beginning a steady decline.

DateSPCX closevs. June 12 close
June 12 (trade date)$160.95n/a
June 16 (peak close)$211.39+31.3%
July 15$135.27-16.0%
July 27 (latest close)$113.50-29.5%

The filing gives a date and no price, so where he bought inside that session is an open question. SPCX changed hands between $149.34 and $176.52 on June 12. Against the low of that day the position is down 24.0 percent, and against the high, 35.7 percent. An allocation at the $135 IPO price would leave it down 15.9 percent.

We covered the session SPCX first closed under its IPO price back on July 15, and it has kept falling since.

The rest of the batch

Measured from the closing price on each trade date, there's an unkind shape to this filing.

CompanyActionTrade dateClose that dayJuly 27 closeChange
SpaceX (SPCX)BoughtJun 12$160.95$113.50-29.5%

S&P Global (SPGI)SoldJun 17$395.48$439.83+11.2%

The two purchases that moved most are both down, and the one sale is the strongest performer of the group. He let go of S&P Global at $395.48 and the stock now trades at $439.83. Anyone can have a bad six weeks, and at a $1,001 to $15,000 bracket the money involved here is small. As an illustration of why these filings are hard to trade on, it's about as clean as they come.

Three of them report within days

The filing became public on a Sunday, and two mornings later the first of these companies reports. S&P Global releases second quarter results on July 28 at about 7:15 a.m. Eastern, with a call an hour and a quarter after that. Microsoft and Meta Platforms both report after the close on July 29, which we previewed separately. SpaceX follows on August 4, which will be its first quarterly report as a public company.

CompanyReportsTiming
S&P Global (SPGI)Tuesday, July 28Before the open
Microsoft (MSFT)Wednesday, July 29After the close
Meta Platforms (META)Wednesday, July 29After the close
SpaceX (SPCX)Tuesday, August 4After the close

HCA Healthcare got there first and reported on July 24, two days before the filing surfaced, earning $7.59 a share against the $7.41 analysts expected. The rest arrive later in August, with Monster Beverage around the 10th, Applied Materials on the 13th and Home Depot on the 18th. So the column of numbers above has a short shelf life, and that's a fair description of the disclosure itself.

What a disclosure like this actually tells you

A date, a bracket and a ticker. That's the whole of it. Whether Moskowitz still owns any of this stays an open question until his next report, because a sale shows up only when he files again.

The 44-day gap matters more than any single number in the table. SpaceX closed at $160.95 the day he bought it, and by the Sunday he signed the filing the last close on the tape was $115.07. Someone reading that row as a tip on July 26 would have been chasing a trade the market had already left behind by a third.

We dug into whether copying disclosures from Congress and hedge funds works at all in a separate piece, and the reporting lag is what eats the advantage. New filings land on our Congress tracker as they come in, and SpaceX's own numbers live on its SPCX page.

Frequently asked questions

Did Rep. Jared Moskowitz buy SpaceX stock?

Yes. His periodic transaction report, signed July 26, 2026, discloses a purchase of SpaceX (SPCX) dated June 12, 2026, in the $1,001 to $15,000 range. That is the standard STOCK Act bracket rather than an exact dollar figure. June 12 was SpaceX's first day of trading.

How has SpaceX (SPCX) stock done since the Moskowitz purchase?

It has fallen. SPCX closed at $160.95 on June 12, the date on the disclosure, then reached a closing high of $211.39 on June 16 before declining. It closed at $113.50 on July 27, 2026, down about 29 percent from that first-day close.

What price did Moskowitz pay for SpaceX?

The filing does not say. House disclosures give a transaction date and a dollar range, never an execution price or a share count. SPCX traded between $149.34 and $176.52 on June 12, so the position is down 24.0 percent measured against the low of that day and 35.7 percent against the high. Shares allocated at the $135 IPO price would be down about 16 percent.

What else was in the Moskowitz disclosure?

Eight companies in total, across 16 transaction lines in four Morgan Stanley accounts. Alongside SpaceX he bought Applied Materials (AMAT), HCA Healthcare (HCA), Home Depot (HD), Microsoft (MSFT), Monster Beverage (MNST) and Meta Platforms (META), and sold S&P Global (SPGI). Every line carries the same $1,001 to $15,000 bracket.

Which trade in the filing has performed best?

The sale. S&P Global closed at $395.48 on June 17, the day he sold it, and closed at $439.83 on July 27, a gain of 11.2 percent. Among the purchases, Meta Platforms leads at 4.6 percent while SpaceX and Applied Materials are both down.

Was the filing late?

No. The STOCK Act requires members to report a transaction within 30 days of learning about it and no later than 45 days after it occurs. The SpaceX trade was dated June 12 and Moskowitz signed the report on July 26, which is 44 days later and one day inside the limit.

Which stocks in the Moskowitz filing report earnings this week?

Three of the eight. S&P Global (SPGI) releases second quarter results on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at about 7:15 a.m. Eastern with a conference call at 8:30 a.m. Microsoft (MSFT) and Meta Platforms (META) both report after the close on Wednesday, July 29. SpaceX (SPCX) reports on August 4, its first quarterly report as a public company. HCA Healthcare already reported on July 24, earning $7.59 a share against the $7.41 expected, and Monster Beverage, Applied Materials and Home Depot all report later in August.

Is it legal for members of Congress to trade stocks?

Yes. Members can trade individual stocks as long as they disclose transactions under the STOCK Act. Several bills to ban the practice have been introduced, and none has become law.
