Key points
- The four French startups Nvidia is backing
- The $2 billion in European deals Huang says are coming
- Where Huang's tour goes next
Nvidia (NVDA) said on October 13 that it plans to invest in four French startups: Doctolib, Entalpic, Genesis AI, and Pigment. Nvidia's announcement didn't give the size of the stakes or what it's paying.
CEO Jensen Huang also said Nvidia expects to announce $2 billion worth of European AI deals over the next week, on top of the $8 billion the company has deployed across the continent over the past year, Quartz reported. "Europe needs to get in the race," Huang said at the event in Paris.
Doctolib confirmed a minority stake
Doctolib is a European healthcare technology company that many patients use to book medical appointments. Nvidia said it builds AI agents to take work off healthcare professionals and a digital health companion for patients. Doctolib said Nvidia had agreed to buy a minority stake, without disclosing its size or value, Reuters reported.
The other three:
- Entalpic, based in Paris, uses AI to engineer materials at the atomic scale, with a focus on semiconductor manufacturing.
- Genesis AI is building general-purpose robots, along with the foundation models and simulation tools to run them. "We are excited that Nvidia is a strategic investor in Genesis AI," the company said.
- Pigment, also based in Paris, makes planning software that helps businesses forecast finance, sales, and workforce needs.
Paris is the first stop on a European tour
Separately, Nvidia said its commitments to Europe's technology ecosystem total nearly $10 billion. It didn't explain how that figure reconciles with the $8 billion deployed over the past year that Quartz reported. Nvidia has previously invested in French companies including Alice & Bob, Gradium, and Scintil Photonics. Huang's tour continues to London and Berlin, where he gives a keynote at Nvidia's GTC Berlin conference on October 21.
The French deals add to a long list of Nvidia stakes, which we mapped in our Nvidia investment map. Nvidia is also in early talks to buy or invest more in Reflection AI.
Nvidia shares were up 0.7% at $227.96 as of 3:54 p.m. ET.
