Anthropic doesn't have a stock ticker yet. The maker of the Claude AI models is privately held, so no exchange lists its shares. Anthropic confidentially submitted a draft registration statement to the Securities and Exchange Commission for an initial public offering on June 1, 2026, and formal marketing of the IPO could start as soon as the week of November 9, according to Bloomberg.
That timetable is tentative. Anthropic said in its announcement that "The proposed initial public offering will depend on market conditions and other factors." The number of shares and the price haven't been set.
The IPO filing is still confidential
A confidential filing lets the SEC review the paperwork before the public sees it. As of October 15, 2026, no public Anthropic S-1 appears on the SEC's EDGAR filing system.
Under SEC staff procedures, a company that files confidentially must make its registration statement public at least 15 days before its roadshow, the series of meetings where it markets the shares to investors. The public registration statement should provide more detail on Anthropic's finances and ownership. The offering size, price range, and ticker may appear in later amendments.
Anthropic has chosen Nasdaq for the listing, Business Insider reported in September. Neither company has confirmed it.
Reports point to a listing after the midterm elections
Anthropic moved its planned IPO from October to November, The Wall Street Journal reported on September 18. The listing is likely to come after the November 3 midterm elections, according to Reuters. If marketing starts the week of November 9, trading could begin before Thanksgiving on November 26.
Anthropic held an investor day for institutional investors at its San Francisco headquarters on October 14. It told the group that third-quarter revenue rose 45% from the second quarter to $16.8 billion and that it was profitable on an adjusted basis. That report didn't say which costs the adjusted figure excludes.
Investors are discussing a value near $2 trillion
Anthropic's last priced funding round was a $65 billion Series H at a $965 billion post-money valuation, announced May 28. Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital led the round.
Prospective IPO investors now see a value of $1.8 trillion to $2 trillion. In August, Anthropic expected its offering to match or top SpaceX's record IPO size.
Nvidia (NVDA) was in talks in September to anchor the IPO with up to $10 billion.
Details from the confidential prospectus, reported in September, show 2025 revenue of nearly $4.6 billion and a net loss of $42 billion. Most of the loss was a $34 billion accounting charge. The filing also lists $518 billion in compute obligations.
Amazon and Google own stakes in Anthropic
Two public companies hold large stakes in Anthropic: Amazon and Alphabet's Google. Owning their shares isn't the same as owning Anthropic, since each stock moves on far more than one investment.
Amazon (AMZN) invested $8.0 billion in Anthropic convertible notes from 2023 through 2025. It added $5.0 billion in Anthropic Series G nonvoting preferred stock in the second quarter of 2026, according to its quarterly filing.
As of June 30, 2026, Amazon carried its Anthropic nonvoting preferred stock at about $92.5 billion. The estimated fair value of its Anthropic convertible notes was about $97.9 billion. Those figures use different accounting measures, so they should be read separately.
If Anthropic goes public, Amazon's outstanding notes would convert into nonvoting common stock, subject to Amazon's ownership cap, and its preferred stock would convert into nonvoting common stock as well. Amazon said it expects to be subject to "a customary lock-up period following an IPO."
As of March 2025, Google (GOOGL) owned 14% of Anthropic, according to court documents seen by The New York Times and reported by DatacenterDynamics. The filings said Google could own no more than 15% and had no voting rights, board seats, or board observer rights.
Anthropic's May 2026 funding round included $15 billion of previously committed investments from large cloud providers, $5 billion of it from Amazon, the company said.
What comes next
Anthropic shares remain privately traded until the company begins trading on an exchange. The next official milestone is the public registration statement. The record below logs each step of the listing with its source.
