- Who can use Gemini 4 Argon now
- Where it ranks on the Vals Index
- What changes in the Gemini app
Alphabet (GOOGL) made Gemini 4 Argon, its newest frontier AI model, widely available on Tuesday, two weeks after a debut limited to a group of cyber defenders. Argon is now "globally available today for developers and enterprises," Google DeepMind's Koray Kavukcuoglu wrote in a company blog post.
Developers can use it through the paid tier of the Gemini API. Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can access Argon in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search. Ultra subscribers also get access through Antigravity, Google's coding tool.
Argon went to cyber defenders first
Google unveiled Argon on September 30, initially limiting access to trusted defenders in its Fairwind cybersecurity program. It gave no timetable for a wider release.
API pricing remains at the introductory rates: $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens.
Argon leads the Vals Index
Argon topped the Vals Index as of October 12 with a score of 68.90%. The index tests finance, coding, legal, and tax tasks. Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 5.5 scored 67.04%, followed by Claude Opus 5.5 at 66.97%. No model led every category.
Its position varies across benchmarks. On October 2, Argon tied OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index and trailed two Anthropic models.
Google also reported gains from using Argon in Antigravity internally. It said the model "helped teams increase agentic code submissions by more than 35% while reducing code rollbacks by nearly a third." The company did not disclose the measurement period or comparison baseline.
The Gemini app can now run tasks
The Gemini app also added a tasks mode, in which Gemini can keep working "even when you're not at your computer," Google said. The app now connects to more than 40 apps, including Instacart, OpenTable, Adobe, and Shopify.
Alphabet shares were up 0.4% at $354.10 as of 12:30 p.m. ET.
