- Two models with different access
- What an outside ranking shows
- When the Muse agent gets it
Meta Platforms (META) released two new AI models on October 12: Muse Wonder, available through its API and coding tool, and Muse Wonder Full, a larger model limited to subscribers of that coding tool, Muse Code.
Meta calls them its most capable models yet, built for personal and professional tasks carried out by AI agents. The release follows a 14-month overhaul of the company's AI efforts. Muse Wonder will also power Meta's Muse personal agent, with subscribers getting access first. Meta gave no rollout date.
Meta puts Wonder Full near the top of the field
Meta says Wonder Full scores above Anthropic's Claude Fable 5.1 and just below Claude Opus 5.5 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, WIRED reported. The index combines results from several capability tests.
Artificial Analysis has since added the models to its leaderboard, scoring Muse Wonder Full at 56, behind Claude Opus 5.5 at 58 and ahead of Claude Fable 5.1 and OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra at 53 each. The smaller Muse Wonder scored 52. Each score is for the model's highest reasoning setting.
Meta also says Wonder Full beat OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra and both Claude models on selected tests, including legal-document work and software development. Those comparisons come from Meta's own testing.
Meta is pitching two features for agents. Active Memory carries "important context about you across conversations" and pulls up the details relevant to a new task. Active Focus keeps the model working toward a goal by "trying alternative approaches, working through blockers, and adapting to new information." The company says both models were trained at Prometheus, its "gigawatt-scale" data center.
"These are true frontier models, competitive with the best models in the world, and are particularly state of the art on personal and professional agentic work," Meta Superintelligence Labs head Alexandr Wang told Axios.
The Muse agent gets Wonder first for subscribers
Muse launched on September 8 and passed 5 million downloads in about three weeks, Sensor Tower estimated. On October 9, Hunterbrook disclosed a short position in Meta alongside estimates that Muse downloads had slowed.
Separate Sensor Tower estimates, published by Yahoo Finance on Monday, show stronger first-day retention than ChatGPT. Muse brought back 73% of new users the day after they installed it, almost twice ChatGPT's rate. Muse loses users faster after that, and ChatGPT moves ahead between days eight and nine.
Meta hasn't said whether it will release Wonder's weights publicly, as it did with the smaller Muse Glimmer. "We're still committed to open source," Wang said. Meta says a full report with additional safety evaluations "will be available soon."
Meta shares were up 4.2% at $748.75 as of 1:23 p.m. ET.
